The library asks Jerry about a book he checked out in 1971 and never returned, so Jerry looks up an old girlfriend for his defense against a library cop.
Sam Ross's Penecillin is one of our favourites, and inspired us to make this Mexican riff on the Scotch-based modern classic. Blended and peated scotch are swapped for tequila and mezcal, respectively, while lime juice stands in for the lemon. We had taken to calling this one La Penicillina, but as all our originals are named for Seinfeld episodes, we dubbed it The Library, for Kramer and Jerry's exchange – "She needs a little Kramer." / "And eventually a little shot of penicillin."
What you need
- 1.5 oz. tequila reposada
- 0.75 oz. mezcal
- 0.75 oz. lime juice
- 0.75 oz. ginger syrup
- candied ginger for garnish
How it's made
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake, then double-strain into an old fashioned glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with candied ginger.
To make ginger syrup, peel and grate a ginger root and then strain the grated ginger through cheesecloth. Measure 2 parts of white sugar with your 1 part ginger juice, and blend until combined.
