Maraschino is a sweet, herbaceous liqueur made from distilling Marasca cherries. While you're probably familiar with maraschino cherries, the liqueur doesn't really taste like cherry, but has more of a herbal flavour to it. Maraschino liqueur is made in the Italian city of Torreglia, and while several varieties exist, the classic version comes from Luxardo in its classic bottle, above.
Maraschino liqueur is used to sweeten cocktails and to add a complexity of flavour. Add the liqueur to your existing home bar and a variety of interesting cocktails will become available to you. The next few posts will combine Maraschino with the previously-added bottles. Saulte!
