We adore Manhattans. We idolize them all out of proportion. Uh, no, make that: We romanticize them all out of proportion. Yeah.
The Manhattan is one of the quintessential cocktails, and among the five classics named for the boroughs of New York City. Made with good whiskey and good vermouth, it's hard to beat. Canadian rye is true to its prohibitionary roots, but we like it with bourbon too.
What you need
- 2 oz. rye whiskey
- 1 oz. sweet vermouth
- 1 dash angostura bitters
- maraschino cherry for garnish
How it's made
Stir the whiskey, vermouth and bitters with ice and strain into a cocktail glass or coupe containing a maraschino cherry.
